I paint a pretty picture online of having coffees and beers. I don’t always share the late nights, the long hours etc. People often ask what a week looks like when you’re juggling consultancy, speaking gigs, client delivery, and business strategy. Truth is, no two weeks are ever the same. But here’s a behind-the-scenes look at one recent week that gives a fair flavour of how things usually go.

Monday: Websites and Workshops

The week started strong with a hands-on workshop for Lincoln Be Smarter, where I teamed up with Thomas Atkins from Identity Agency. We helped attendees understand the full ecosystem of websites, covering everything from hosting and DNS to SEO, CMS platforms, and building strategy. It’s always a great feeling seeing people go from overwhelmed to empowered in the space of a couple of hours. Feedback was AMAZING!

The afternoon was spent in build mode, planning and developing websites for a couple of clients with urgent timelines. One delegate built a landing page in an afternoon learning as she went.

Monday Evening: Hitting the Road

No slow start to the week here. I travelled down to Bristol in preparation for a podcast appearance and a live workshop with 45 legal firms, hosted by Kings Court Trust. Being in the room with so many practitioners from the estate planning and legal space was both energising and rewarding. After the event, Callum and I travelled back home and I rounded off the night by drafting two new client proposals, having a catch up with Charlotte about outstanding client matters.

Wednesday: Catch-Ups, Client Wins, and Going Live

Midweek was all about preparation and progress. After some internal team catch-ups, I finalised plans for a Thursday webinar with Estatesearch. I also onboarded a new client and took two websites live. That’s always a highlight, seeing something go from planning stages to public launch is a milestone that never gets old.

Thursday: Full-On Focus

Thursday was relentless, in the best way. A string of back-to-back client meetings took up most of the day, but we managed to pack a lot in. Before midday, I’d delivered a webinar with Estatesearch, tackling some of the latest trends and challenges in the legal marketing. Feedback was great, and I always enjoy being able to speak directly to businesses who are eager to learn and grow.

Friday: Golf, Emails, and Accounts

Friday was a bit of a switch in pace, with golf lessons (week 2 of 6). We welcomed a new delegate into the fold, and there’s something special about blending networking with learning outside of a traditional boardroom.

Back at the desk in the afternoon, I focused on prepping email newsletters for several clients, something that often gets overlooked but still performs consistently well when done right. I finished the week off with some business admin and accounting tasks, which, while not glamorous, are essential for keeping things running smoothly.

Why Share This?

Because marketing isn’t just about ideas. It’s about execution, consistency, and adaptability. Whether it’s helping people understand the nuts and bolts of digital marketing, delivering client value, or carving out space for strategy and education, every day is a step towards growth, for both my clients and my own business. As I started by saying, running a business (particularly an agency) is like a swan swimming; graceful on the surface, frantic underneath, and you don’t see this on socials.
