Ever wondered what a typical week looks like when you run a marketing agency? I’ve decided to do a behind-the-scenes view of mine. It’s a juggling act of client meetings, creative tasks, team catch-ups, and even some community involvement with junior sports. It can get a little hectic when I have a family driving my ‘Why’, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Monday: Early Starts and New Beginnings
I kicked off my Monday by onboarding two brand-new clients. It’s always exciting bringing new people into the fold, especially when they’re passionate about their business. We began with a discovery call, talked through their short-term and long-term goals, and mapped out how our agency can help them grow. One of the two clients was a software client who wanted to implement our CRM system to help their business better track leads and conversions.
In the evening, I headed out to train with the Under-9 girls football team at Lincoln United FC. We sponsor their the whole junior section’s kit, which is a real point of pride for me and the team. I love getting out of the office for a bit, supporting the local community, and seeing how sport helps these young players build confidence and teamwork skills.
Tuesday: Client-Focused Day
Tuesday was packed with eight client meetings. Some were standard catch-ups, while others were more in-depth strategy sessions. In between those meetings, I managed to update four client websites, adding fresh content, implementing small design tweaks, and making sure everything was optimised for speed and SEO. I also wrote four articles for clients, mixing in keyword research with engaging storytelling to keep their target audience hooked.
By the end of the day, my inbox was overflowing, but I made a point to keep on top of it. Quick communication is so important in building trust, especially in marketing and we aim to get back to clients within 24 hours.
Wednesday: Mix of Creative and Community
Wednesday morning was a blend of admin and creativity. I recorded four TikTok videos on marketing tips (I’m trying to ramp up short-form content) and set up a brand-new YouTube channel for my personal brand. Video content is something I’ve been meaning to expand on for a while, and it seems hypocritical when we tell our clients to do it, so ticking that off felt like a win. Later that afternoon, I had an out-of-hours meeting with an existing client who needed urgent support with an upcoming launch. Even though it meant working outside the usual 9-to-5 slot, I’m a big believer in being flexible, because momentum is crucial when a client’s on the edge of something big.
Thursday: Team Time and New Opportunities
On Thursday, I presented a webinar on boosting organic leads through smart, sustainable marketing. We had an interactive Q&A at the end, which is always my favourite part, because I can hear directly from attendees about their real-world challenges.
Thursday also brought four internal team meetings, a chance to ensure everyone’s on the same page regarding client work, ongoing projects, and new business pitches. We’ve got a few big campaigns launching soon, so it was all about deadlines, responsibilities, and making sure no detail slips through the cracks.
Later in the day, I took instructions on a brand-new website build for a long-term client. I genuinely enjoy these planning sessions, because we dig into everything from brand identity and customer journey to the specific look and feel of the final site.
Friday: Training, Submissions, and a Webinar
Friday has been a round-up with an impromptu coffee with a local client, chasing clients for award submissions for local awards and doing some weekly admin.
I also wrote three award submissions for clients who’ve done incredible work in their respective fields for local Chamber awards. Shouting about their successes is all part of what we do, and if we can help them get some recognition, all the better. Later that afternoon, I ran a LinkedIn training session for a small team looking to enhance their personal branding, walking them through best practices for content creation, profile optimisation, and networking.
Wrapping it All Up
Throughout the week, I kept my own LinkedIn updated too, which is key for staying visible and networking with peers, potential clients, and industry influencers. It’s not just a chore; it’s how I document what’s happening, share insights, and connect with like-minded professionals.
So, that’s a snapshot of my week. It’s varied, occasionally frantic, and always rewarding. From website updates and onboarding new clients to supporting our U9 football team and sharing expertise on TikTok and YouTube, every day is a fresh chance to learn and grow. And while it might sound busy, I wouldn’t swap it for anything else, this is the kind of energy I thrive on, and it’s what keeps our agency (and our clients) moving forward. Next week – Jury service! 🙁
Cheers,
Tom Stansfield
